XXV RALLYE ELBA STORICO-TROFEO LOCMAN ITALY: THE FIRST LEG IN THE HANDS OF DA ZANCHE - OBERTI (PORSCHE 911)
Since yesterday evening duels and a lot of entertainment on the streets of Elba with the comfort of a beautiful sunny summer day.
The man from Valtellina took the lead after the fourth special stage, before dueling with Marchionni, then battled with "Pedro" until the seventh round, then took off why the latter was delayed by transmission problems.
Tomorrow another six special stages with final arrival at 16.00.
The engines turned on and the duels started last night at the XXV Rallye Elba Storico - Trofeo Locman Italy. There was immediately great show, on the roads of Elba, by the 101 crews. Last night they played two stages, including the spectacular "Capoliveri", taken literally assaulted by the public for special occasions.
Today the comparison is continued with another six timed sections embedded in a path that reflects a lot of the classic offered over the years by the islander rally, with Lucio Da Zanche from Valtellina, Italian Champion, who finished with the lead. The driver of Bormio, at the wheel of his Porsche 911, flanked by Oberti has finished the first, long, hard in Elba at the end of a very exciting leg and full of twists.
Last night, after a good start by "Pedro" (Lancia 037) on Stage 1 "Volterraio - Falconaia", then went into crisis with the tires in the toboggan of Capoliveri, another driver from Valtellina, Luigi Marchionni (Porsche 911), had closed with the lead. He remained first until the fourth stage, and then stopped on the fifth for a "hit" and subsequent drilling, as well as irreparable damage to the rear axle.
Da Zanche, who earlier had paired atop the partial classification, was able to take a slight margin, closely followed by "Pedro", then managed to take the lead from the sixth timed section, the "Monte Giove - Falconaia". Then, the red and white Lancia, European Champion, was forced to leave again the lead due to difficulty with the transmission, so Da Zanche was again leader.
Behind Da Zanche (and ahead "Pedro", slipped to seventh overall) we can find, in second positio,n Alberto Salvini from Siena and his Audi Quattro, with which it is in its second race, at 28"7, while the third, at 44"8, is the young Nicolas Montini from Brescia (Porsche 911), seen consistently in areas of high ranking.
Bad luck for many, Matteo Musti from Pavia (Porsche 911) heavily lingered in the first stages and sunk in the standings for problems with a coil and also for Davide Negri from Biella (Porsche 911), lingered for about 2 ´ by a puncture suffered during the sixth special stage of his first Rallye Elba, imitated by Enrico Brazzoli from Cuneo (Lancia 037) on the SS 8.
In the First Group CSAI holds the lead Luigi Zampaglione (Porsche 911), also first in the Category 1 of the continental race, ahead of Renault Alpine 110 driven by Luigi Capsoni.
The Second Group CSAI is now in the hands of the leader Da Zanche ahead Montini and Negri, while the Third Group is now headed by Raoul Marco Domenicali (Porsche 911 SC), in front of everyone even in the Category 3.
Returning to the reading of the race in European key, in Category 2 Zanche and Montini are extremely leaders, with the Andreis (Porsche 911) third. Category 4 is in the hands of Salvini.
Notable performance, with peaks of real show by Giuliano Calzolari (Ford Escort RS), tenth overall and first of the "two liters" and also the unforgettable 80´s Champion Federico Ormezzano with Talbot Lotus 2.2, who finished this first stage in nineteenth place overall.
Tiziano Nerobutto won race one in the Trofeo Abarth A112, which on this Event provides a separate classification for both legs.
Tomorrow, Saturday 21 September, the grand finale, with a further six stages : the challenges will start at 08.30 and the checkered flag, always in Capoliveri, flown in from 16.00.
