Spectator safety
ARRIVE EARLY
Reach your chosen viewing position at least 60 minutes before the scheduled start of the Special Stage.
As the start time approaches, the route is progressively checked by the safety cars and spectator movement must stop.
PARK CAREFULLY
Park without creating danger or obstruction.
- do not block access roads or side roads;
- do not obstruct escape routes;
- always leave access clear for emergency vehicles.
WHERE TO STAND
Whenever possible, choose a position above the level of the road.
Always keep a safe distance from the Special Stage road.
WHERE NOT TO STAND
- on the outside of bends;
- in escape roads or run-off areas;
- in places towards which an out-of-control car could travel;
- immediately beside the road.
FOLLOW THE MARSHALS AND SAFETY CARS
Stage Marshals and the crews of the safety cars also monitor spectator positioning.
If they consider your position unsafe, they may ask you to move.
Always follow the instructions of the Stage Marshals and of the crews of the safety cars. If you are asked to move, do so without hesitation: it is for your safety and the safety of the other spectators.
PAY ATTENTION TO SIGNS AND SAFETY TAPE
Always observe the safety signs placed along the Special Stage.
DO NOT STAND BEHIND THE SAFETY TAPE
The tape does not mark the boundary of a safe spectator area. It is used to identify a position where spectators must not stand.
WHAT THE SAFETY CARS DO
Before the start of the Special Stage, the route is progressively checked by several official service and safety vehicles.
Around one hour before the first competitor, the CRONO - TIMEKEEPERS vehicle enters the stage. It is followed, in this order, by:
SAFETY • DAP • FIA SAFETY DELEGATE • ACI SPORT SUPERVISOR • FIA OBSERVER • 00 • 0
As the start time approaches, the safety checks become increasingly strict, including checks on spectator positioning.
Always follow the instructions of the Stage Marshals and of the crews of the safety cars. If you are asked to move, do so immediately.
Once car 00 has passed, nobody should walk on the Special Stage road.
Car 0 is the final safety car: after it has passed, the competition cars are about to arrive.
After the last Rally Elba Storico car, the activation car for the Elba Graffiti will enter the stage. More cars are still coming: do not enter the road and do not move along the stage.
DURING THE SPECIAL STAGE
- remain in your chosen position;
- do not walk along the route;
- do not enter the road;
- do not cross between competing cars.
Even when there appears to be a long gap, another car may arrive suddenly.
PHOTOGRAPHY AND VIDEO
No photograph is worth taking a risk for.
Do not move closer to the road and do not focus exclusively on your camera or phone screen while a car is approaching.
Always keep your attention on the stage.
IF A CAR STOPS OR LEAVES THE ROAD
Do not immediately enter the road and do not approach the car unless instructed to do so.
Other competitors may still be approaching. Always follow the instructions of the Stage Marshals.
CHILDREN
Children must always be accompanied and kept under close supervision.
ANIMALS
Animals must be kept under control and away from the road.
Noise and passing rally cars may cause sudden or unpredictable reactions.
AN UNSAFE SPECTATOR POSITION CAN STOP THE STAGE
If spectators are found in positions that are incompatible with the safe running of the stage, the start may be delayed or the Special Stage may be cancelled.
SWEEPER VEHICLE
The Sweeper vehicle follows the final competitor.
Always wait for authorisation from the rally officials before entering the road or moving along the stage.
ROAD CLOSURE AND REOPENING
Published reopening times are indicative.
Do not enter the road simply because the expected reopening time has passed.
RESPECT THE ISLAND OF ELBA
- do not leave litter;
- do not damage vegetation;
- do not light fires;
- respect private property, wildlife and the environment.
