XXXVIII Rallye Elba Storico – Trofeo Locman Italy: the Special Stages unveiled

The event, scheduled from 24 to 26 September, and counting for both the European Championship and the Italian Championship, will once again feature a route inspired by tradition, with a number of changes compared with last year’s edition.
The Regularity Rally will also be part of the programme, an unmissable appointment for specialists in the discipline and the penultimate round of the Italian Championship.
A total of ten Special Stages are scheduled, along a route designed both to provide a demanding sporting challenge and to allow competitors to experience the island at its best, while limiting the impact on the local area.
Entries opened on 9 August and will close on 9 September.
Livorno, 27 August 2026 – The highly anticipated XXXVIII Rallye Elba Storico – Trofeo Locman Italy, scheduled from 24 to 26 September, is currently in the midst of its entry period, which will close on Wednesday 9 September.
The classic and unmissable rendezvous organised by ACI Livorno Sport – organiser and promoter of the event on behalf of ACI Livorno – is therefore preparing to renew its long-standing relationship with motorsport, returning to the Italian and international stage with a partially revised format, while remaining firmly rooted in the tradition of an event that produces a unique edition every year.
Counting for both series of the new-format FIA European Historic Rally Championship and as the seventh and penultimate round of the Italian Historic Rally Championship, the event will also retain its status as the penultimate round of the Italian Historic Regularity Rally Championship, as well as counting towards the Trofeo Rally Toscano, Trofeo A112 Abarth, Trofeo Michelin Storico, Memory Fornaca and the ACI Livorno Club Championship.
THE NEW CONTINENTAL FORMAT
This year the Elba event once again confirms its position as one of the most prestigious and eagerly awaited events on the international rallying scene, and will undoubtedly be one of the most fascinating and representative competitions of the new European format for historic cars.
From this season, the FIA European Historic Rally Championship has adopted a new structure divided into three separate series: two dedicated to asphalt events and one reserved for gravel rallies.
As far as asphalt is concerned, the regulations provide for two separate categories based on the year of manufacture of the cars: on one side, cars built between 1993 and 2000, competing in a dedicated series; on the other, cars built before 1992, competing in a technical context more consistent with their sporting heritage.
Within this new framework, Rallye Elba Storico has been included in both European asphalt series, providing further recognition of the prestige and international standing acquired by the event through many years of passionate work by ACI Livorno Sport together with the whole island.
A ROUTE INSPIRED BY TRADITION
The Special Stages of the 2026 edition are roads already well known and extensively used throughout the long history of the island’s event, but above all they remain exciting roads to drive competitively, capable of feeling new every time.
Here are the Special Stages in detail:
Special Stage No. 1 – “CAPOLIVERI” (10.480 km)

For the sixteenth consecutive year, Capoliveri will host a spectacular night-time “town” Special Stage, made possible thanks to the valuable cooperation of the Municipal Administration and a large group of local enthusiasts.
The stage starts in Via Mellini and, after crossing the historic centre and passing close to Capoliveri’s main square, runs through the narrow streets of the town, with sudden climbs and descents and blind corners where roadside hazards mean that even the smallest driving mistake may seriously compromise the remainder of the rally.
Special Stages 2/4 – “DUE COLLI” (12.380 km)

Created by combining two historic sections – Colle del Monumento and Colle Reciso – the “Due Colli” stage starts from Filetto before immediately joining the Monumento provincial road.
The stage begins with a fast uphill section to the summit, where engine power becomes decisive. The following descent leads towards the village of Lacona, where the road becomes narrower and the surface more technical, requiring great precision.
In the final section, competitors first tackle a very narrow stretch featuring several ninety-degree bends, before joining the Colle Reciso road, with a steep climb towards the quarries and a chicane introducing a technical finale rich in bends. All this is framed by the view over the bay of Portoferraio, providing a spectacular backdrop to an adrenaline-filled finish.

This year ACI Livorno Sport brings back the Monte Perone stage in the south-to-north direction, returning competitors to one of the most technical and fascinating roads on the island.
Drivers competing on the “Due Mari” and “Perone” stages, starting from La Pila, will immediately face a sequence of hairpins over the first two kilometres, demanding precision and rhythm, before crossing the village of Sant’Ilario and reaching the Accolta junction.
The central section represents the most demanding part of the route: a difficult stretch leading as far as the village of Poggio, where technique and concentration will be essential.
This is where SS5 ends, just before entering Poggio. The longer configuration then continues along the “Civillina” Provincial Road, finishing in the locality of Buonconsiglio.
The route promises to be extremely complete: hairpins, climbs, descents and constantly changing road surfaces, often made treacherous by leaves, all surrounded by dense vegetation that further increases the challenge. It is a stage offering no respite and one that will thoroughly test both crews and cars.
Special Stages 6/8 – “INNAMORATA – ANNA PUCCINI” (9.850 km)

The start is located on Viale Italia and, following an almost loop-shaped route, the stage brings the crews back to the outskirts of the town, passing through Via Luperini.
The stage winds along the spectacular panoramic roads of Capoliveri and the hamlets of Trappola, Morcone, Pareti and Innamorata, alternating faster sections with more technical ones where precision and clean driving lines make the difference.
The constant changes of rhythm place drivers and co-drivers under pressure, requiring maximum concentration and teamwork, while the tarmac can be tricky in places, demanding careful management of grip.
It is a technical and complete stage, capable of rewarding both talent and concentration.

The longest Special Stage of the rally starts from Rio Elba and finishes in Cavo, passing through Nisporto and Bagnaia, after almost 27 kilometres of bends and hairpins on a road surface that changes continuously.
The stage has been a regular fixture in the event programme since 2018. The route is formed by joining together three historic stages – “Volterraio”, “Falconaia” and “Parata” – and has been made possible thanks to the cooperation of the local authorities, considering the significant impact involved on the surrounding area.
From a technical point of view, this is a Special Stage that severely tests both driver endurance and the cars themselves, due to the intrinsic characteristics of this magnificent road.
There are numerous points of interest: from the end of the Volterraio section to the Falconaia hairpins and the passage by the Church of San Pietro in Rio Elba, to name only a few. On this stage, it is truly the driver who makes the difference.
THREE DAYS OF COMPETITION, STARTING WITH THE NIGHT STAGE IN CAPOLIVERI
The wide range of championships for which the event counts has required specific work this year, particularly regarding the many logistical and operational aspects imposed by the new continental format.
Several important changes have therefore been introduced in order to meet the requirements of the new international format.
The competition will take place over three days. The start will be hosted in Porto Azzurro, in the harbour area, while the final finish will take place in the picturesque historic centre of Capoliveri.
On Thursday 24 September, the programme will begin with the spectacular Capoliveri town Special Stage, a truly unique fixture that will officially open the first leg.
On Friday 25 September, the rally will move to the western side of the island, with a regroup scheduled in Marciana Marina, while the overnight regroup will be hosted in Capoliveri.
On Saturday 26 September, the rally will enter its decisive phase on the roads of the eastern side of Elba, with a regroup in Porto Azzurro before the final finish.
The route will remain faithful to the tradition that has made Rallye Elba Storico famous, featuring ten Special Stages among the most popular and selective in the Italian rallying scene.
INCREASED COMPETITIVE MILEAGE AND TWO SERVICE PARKS
The main new feature will be the increase in competitive mileage, which will reach 140.080 kilometres.
Another significant change is the introduction of two separate Service Parks, a solution adopted in view of the new FIA format.
The area dedicated to competitors in the European Championship will be located in Porto Azzurro, while the Service Park reserved for crews competing in the Italian Championship will be based in Capoliveri.
This solution has been designed to provide teams with the best possible operational conditions and to ensure more efficient logistical management of the event.
The rally headquarters will once again be located at the Hotel Airone in Portoferraio, which will host administrative checks, while scrutineering will take place on the Porto Azzurro seafront.
