Rallye Elba Storico Returns: Three Days of Spectacle Between Sea, History and Motorsport
New organisational challenges, a longer route and the enduring charm of an event that continues to be an international benchmark for historic rallying.
24–26 September 2026
Livorno, 23 June 2026 – Preparations are progressing at full speed for the XXXVIII Rallye Elba Storico – Trofeo Locman Italy, organised by ACI Livorno Sport and the Automobile Club Livorno, scheduled to take place from 24 to 26 September 2026 and counting towards both the FIA European Historic Rally Championship and the Italian Historic Rally Championship.
The Elba event once again confirms its status as one of the most prestigious and eagerly anticipated rallies on the international historic rally calendar, widely regarded by competitors and officials alike as one of the most fascinating and representative events of the new continental era. From this season onwards, the FIA European Historic Rally Championship has adopted a new structure consisting of three distinct series: two dedicated to asphalt events and one reserved for gravel rallies.
Regarding asphalt competition, the regulations now provide two separate championships according to the construction period of the cars. One series is dedicated to vehicles built between 1993 and 2000, while a second series is reserved for cars built before 1992, allowing them to compete in a technical environment more consistent with their sporting heritage. Within this new framework, the Rallye Elba Storico has been included in both FIA European series, further recognition of the event's prestige and international significance.
The rally will also remain a round of the Italian Historic Rally Championship (CIRAS), where it will serve as the seventh and penultimate event of the season. In addition, it will count towards the A112 Abarth Trophy, Michelin Historic Trophy, Memory Fornaca, and the ACI Livorno Social Championship.
This combination of sporting titles makes the Elba event a must-attend competition for drivers and teams. For this reason, the organisers have devoted particular attention to numerous logistical and operational aspects, introducing several important innovations to meet the requirements of the new international format.
THREE DAYS OF COMPETITION – STARTING WITH THE CAPOLIVERI NIGHT STAGE
The rally will be contested over three days. The ceremonial start will take place in the harbour area of Porto Azzurro, while the final finish ceremony will be held in the picturesque historic centre of Capoliveri.
On Thursday 24 September, the event will begin with the spectacular Capoliveri city special stage, a unique and highly popular test that will officially open the first leg of the rally.
On Friday 25 September, competitors will tackle the western side of the island, with a regroup scheduled in Marciana Marina, while the overnight regroup will be hosted in Capoliveri.
On Saturday 26 September, the competition will enter its decisive phase on the roads of eastern Elba, featuring a regroup in Porto Azzurro before the final finish.
The route follows the tradition that has made the Rallye Elba Storico famous, offering ten special stages among the most renowned and demanding in Italian rallying. The main novelty for 2026 is the increase in competitive distance, which will reach 140.080 kilometres of special stages.
INCREASED COMPETITIVE DISTANCE AND TWO SERVICE PARKS
Another major innovation is the introduction of two separate service parks, a solution adopted in response to the new FIA championship format.
The service area dedicated to FIA European Championship competitors will be located in Porto Azzurro, while the service park reserved for Italian Championship crews will be based in Capoliveri.
This arrangement has been designed to provide teams with improved operational efficiency and to ensure a more effective logistical management of the event.
The rally headquarters will once again be located at the Hotel Airone in Portoferraio, which will also host the administrative checks. Scrutineering will take place along the seafront area of Porto Azzurro.
A FUNDAMENTAL PARTNERSHIP WITH THE LOCAL COMMUNITY
As in previous years, the work of the Automobile Club Livorno and ACI Livorno Sport can rely on the invaluable support of local administrations, associations and the entire Elban community. This long-standing collaboration has played a crucial role in the growth of the rally, which has become increasingly integrated with the territory while acting as a genuine ambassador for the island's image on the international sporting stage. The numbers from recent editions underline this success. In 2025, the rally attracted 153 crews from ten European countries, receiving highly positive feedback from competitors, officials and fans alike.
Luciano Fiori, President of ACI Livorno Sport:“For many months we have been working with great commitment and attention to detail to deliver a Rallye Elba Storico worthy of its tradition and of the international prestige the event has earned over time. The inclusion of the rally in both FIA European Historic Rally Championship series represents an important recognition for us, but also an even greater responsibility. The new continental format has led us to develop several innovative organisational solutions, starting with the management of the service parks, always with the objective of providing the best possible experience for teams, drivers and event partners. We are convinced that the route we have designed, the increased competitive mileage and the unique charm of the Island of Elba will offer a technical challenge of the highest level. Finally, I would like to thank the Elban community, the local administrations, volunteers, sponsors and everyone who contributes to the success of this event. Rallye Elba Storico is a valuable asset for the territory and continues to represent an extraordinary international showcase for the island and for Italian motorsport as a whole. We truly believe we help showcase the beauty of Italy through motorsport.”
